Alaska Airlines implements international lap infant ticketing

Alaska Airlines has implemented new automation systems that allow for the pricing, ticketing, and acceptance of lap infants on international revenue itineraries containing Alaska segments. Previously, the airline’s international operations were largely limited to short-haul destinations like Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean, which did not require the complex ticketing apparatus needed for long-haul travel.

Under the new system, American Airlines agents can now price and ticket infants not occupying a seat on eligible international itineraries. On these trips, infant fares are typically 10% of the adult fare plus applicable taxes. This technical upgrade is viewed as a necessary step for Alaska Airlines to function as a global carrier and supports its ongoing efforts to work more closely with American Airlines through an antitrust-immunized joint venture.
