Alaska polling station investigation alleges voter ID loopholes

James O’Keefe and the O’Keefe Media Group released undercover footage alleging vulnerabilities in Alaska’s voting system during the August 18 primary election. In the video, O’Keefe claims he visited an Anchorage polling station and, after stating he had no identification, was told by poll workers that voting was ‘absolutely possible’ by using a ‘question ballot.’ O’Keefe reported that workers offered him the ballot of Brian Murkowski, the brother of Senator Lisa Murkowski.

The investigation also claims a female investigator was able to obtain a ballot for Karina Waller, Senator Murkowski’s state director, without presenting identification. Under Alaska Statute Title 15, a question ballot can be issued to voters who cannot provide sufficient ID; these ballots are typically segregated and reviewed by election officials after the polls close.

Senator Murkowski has responded by calling for O’Keefe to be prosecuted, characterizing the incident as an act of voter fraud through impersonation. While Murkowski has expressed support for photo ID requirements, she has previously opposed the SAVE America Act, citing concerns that the legislation is too centralized and burdensome.
