Alaska Senate race features two candidates named Dan Sullivan
The Alaska Senate race for the 2026 general election features a unique ballot with two Republican candidates sharing the name Dan Sullivan. The sitting Senator, Dan S. Sullivan, will face Dan J. Sullivan, a retired schoolteacher. While state election officials initially attempted to remove the retired teacher from the ballot to prevent voter confusion, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled in June that he may remain.
Allegations of coordination have surfaced, with opponents suggesting the retired teacher may act as a spoiler for the incumbent. Both candidates and Democrat Mary Peltola have denied any such coordination. State and federal authorities are reportedly conducting investigations into the campaign.
The race is considered highly competitive as Democrats seek to gain Senate control. In addition to the Senate contest, the gubernatorial race will feature Republicans Dave Bronson and Bernadette Wilson against Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins following the withdrawal of Democrat Tom Begich.
