Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan faces luxury spending probe and challenger name‑confusion dispute

Incumbent Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan's campaign organizations have spent more than $1.5 million on lodging, meals and event space at upscale resorts such as the Four Seasons in Palm Beach, Florida; the La Quinta Resort in Palm Springs, California; and the Kiawah Golf Resort in South Carolina. The bulk of the spending occurred outside Alaska, raising questions about compliance with federal campaign‑finance rules that require expenses to be tied to official campaign activities.

At the same time, a second candidate, Dan J. Sullivan, has entered the Alaska U.S. Senate race, insisting his candidacy is a personal choice and not a Democratic ploy to confuse voters. He denies any coordination with Democratic nominee Mary Peltola and rejects accusations that his shared name with the incumbent is a strategic ruse. Alaska’s lieutenant governor has opened an investigation into the challenger’s filing, while both campaigns warn that the duplicate names could mislead voters in the state’s open primary system.
