Alaska voters show generational divides in motivation and political support

An AARP poll indicates that older voters in Alaska report significantly higher motivation to participate in the upcoming November election compared to younger demographics. According to the survey, 87% of likely voters aged 50 and older rated their motivation at the highest level on a 10-point scale, while only 62% of voters under 50 provided the same rating. The poll highlights generational divides in political support, noting that Democrat Mary Peltola leads among younger voters, whereas Republican incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan holds more support among those aged 50 and older.

In a separate local matter, the Kenai Peninsula Borough is considering changes to how assembly vacancies are filled. Proposed Ordinance 2026-34 would extend the window before an election during which a vacancy must be filled by voters rather than through a temporary appointment, increasing the threshold from 45 to 90 days. The measure also proposes a formal ballot process for applicants and a one-year district residency requirement for appointees.
