Alasko frozen raspberries recalled in Canada over norovirus risk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a Class 1 food recall for Alasko brand frozen whole raspberries due to potential norovirus contamination. The agency noted that the recall follows an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak, with reports of illnesses already linked to the consumption of the product.

The recall affects two specific formats: 1 kg bags (UPC 6 95058 00205 4) and 5 kg packs (UPC 1 069505 800205 1). Both formats share lot number SY25314, PO#138602, and a best before date of November 10, 2027.

These products were distributed across seven Canadian provinces: Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec. The recall applies to general consumers as well as hotels, restaurants, and other food service institutions.

Consumers are advised to stop using, selling, or serving the affected products immediately. The items can be discarded or returned to the place of purchase. Norovirus typically causes symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and stomach cramps, appearing between 12 and 48 hours after exposure.
