Alassane Diatta emerges as rising talent at Villarreal

Alassane Diatta, a 21-year-old Senegalese midfielder, is emerging as a significant talent at the Spanish club Villarreal. Born in Casamance, Diatta developed his skills in Senegal with Mbour Petite-Côte and Keur Madior FC before moving to Spain.

Diatta signed a four-year contract with Villarreal in November 2023. After progressing through the club’s youth ranks and playing for Villarreal B in the Primera Federación, he made his first-team debut in the Copa del Rey in December 2024. His development continued with a contract extension through June 2030 and appearances in the Champions League during the 2025-2026 season.

Described as a ‘box-to-box’ midfielder, Diatta is noted for his physical presence, high work rate, and ability to contribute to both defensive recovery and offensive build-up. His progression is viewed as a potential future reinforcement for the Senegal national team, the Lions.
