Alassane Ouattara travels to France amid regional diplomatic activity

Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara has departed Abidjan for a private trip to France. This visit occurs less than a month after his return from vacation and shortly after presiding over Côte d'Ivoire's 66th independence anniversary celebrations.

In a separate diplomatic development, Mauritanian President Mohamed Cheikh El Ghazouani visited Abidjan to meet with President Ouattara. The leaders discussed bilateral relations and cooperation, with a specific focus on regional security challenges in the Sahel and West Africa involving Islamist terrorist groups. The meeting also coincided with Mauritania's diplomatic efforts regarding the candidacy of Coumba Bâ for the position of Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF).
