Alastair Clarkson hits back at North Melbourne after sacking

Alastair Clarkson has responded to his dismissal as the North Melbourne Kangaroos head coach, accusing the club's hierarchy of being disrespectful. In his first interview since being sacked with one year remaining on his contract, Clarkson stated that the club “danced on my grave” and expressed that he and his family felt “publicly humiliated” by the manner of his exit.

Clarkson expressed shock at the decision, suggesting he deserved to be warned or informed of any issues beforehand. He also pushed back against claims that his relationships with players and staff had deteriorated, maintaining that his coaching mantra has always centered on empathy and care for players.

North Melbourne president Sonja Hood and football boss Todd Viney previously held a press conference to explain the decision. Viney noted that the previous Hawthorn racism saga had taken an enormous toll on Clarkson, stating, “I’m not sure the scars have fully healed.”

Following the dismissal, several coaches have been mentioned as potential replacements, including John Longmire and Adam Simpson, though the club may also look toward highly-rated assistants.
