Alastair Long appointed UK Trade Commissioner for Africa

Alastair Long has officially begun his role as His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner (HMTC) for Africa, leading the United Kingdom’s trade and investment relationship with the continent.

Long aims to deepen economic ties by working with governments, investors, businesses, and institutions. His mandate includes expanding commercial partnerships, supporting both UK and African businesses, attracting investment, and fostering sustainable, resilient, and productive economies across Africa.

Long returns to the region after previously serving as Deputy Trade Commissioner and HM Trade Commissioner for Africa between 2019 and 2022. His recent experience includes serving as His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain. He joined the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in 2002 and has held various diplomatic and trade roles across the Middle East and North Africa.
