Alauda Ruiz de Azúa film ‘Glaube’ begins German cinema release

The award-winning film ‘Glaube’ (Faith), directed by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, is arriving in German cinemas. The drama follows 17-year-old Ainara, who decides to pursue a life as a nun in a Catholic convent, a choice that creates significant tension within her family.

While her father remains largely indifferent, her aunt Maite attempts to dissuade her from this path. The film explores themes of religious conviction, female anger, and the difficulty of understanding differing belief systems. Director Ruiz de Azúa, an atheist, noted that the film avoids clear-cut moral boundaries between good and evil, instead focusing on the emotional complexities of the protagonist's decision.

‘Glaube’ has received significant international acclaim, winning the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián Film Festival and securing five GOYA Awards in 2026, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Lead Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Original Screenplay.
