Alava cuts AP-68 tolls by up to 70% for drivers

The Diputación Foral de Álava approved a new toll regime for the 55‑kilometre stretch of the AP‑68 that runs through the province. Starting 11 November (2026), the fee for a light vehicle will fall from €11.20 to €3.35, a 70% reduction, with the per‑kilometre charge dropping from 22 cents to 6 cents. Heavy vehicles will receive a 50% cut, though exact rates for trucks have not yet been published.

The change will apply only to the Alava section; drivers from the neighbouring Basque province of Bizkaia will see a smaller 20% discount, with a projected charge of €4.20 for cars. The toll system will combine free‑flow “dynamic” lanes with conventional barrier stations and will be payable via the VIA‑T electronic card, bank‑linked cards, or cash machines. Deputy General Ramiro González said the reduction reflects the fact that most traffic on the AP‑68 is non‑Alava‑based and that the fees are intended to fund maintenance and modernization of high‑capacity roads in the region.
