Alba Luz Ramos resigns as President of Nicaragua's Supreme Court

The National Assembly of Nicaragua has officially accepted the immediate resignation of Alba Luz Ramos Vanegas from her position as president and magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ). The resignation, dated August 25, was formalized in the official state gazette, La Gaceta, on August 28. Ramos cited health reasons and retirement after more than 30 years in the judiciary as the basis for her departure.

Observers and judicial insiders characterize the resignation as the formalization of a forced exit. Ramos had effectively been stripped of her duties since October 2023, following a violent removal from her offices by police officers. This event was part of a broader restructuring of the CSJ, which has seen a series of resignations and removals of magistrates between 2025 and 2026.
