Albacete Mayor faces scrutiny over 2.4 million euro ZBE contracts

The Albacete City Council is facing scrutiny following reports from the Tribunal de Cuentas and the Chamber of Accounts of Castilla-La Mancha regarding the awarding of contracts for a Low Emission Zone (ZBE). Audit findings indicate that approximately 2.4 million euros were committed to contracts for cameras and technology before the necessary regulatory ordinance had even been approved.

Opposition leaders from the PSOE have criticized Mayor Manuel Serrano for what they describe as “administrative temerity,” arguing that the premature expenditure risks European funding intended for sustainable mobility. The reports also highlight significant delays by the local government in meeting legal obligations to implement the ZBE, which is mandatory for cities with populations exceeding 50,000 inhabitants.
