Albacete police seize 173 electric scooters in 2026 enforcement

The Albacete Local Police have seized 173 electric scooters (Personal Mobility Vehicles) so far in 2026 following 102 specific inspections. Mayor Manuel Serrano reported that the operation involved inspecting 1,138 vehicles to ensure compliance with updated road safety regulations, specifically Royal Decree 52/2026.

Of the impounded vehicles, 158 were removed because they were not registered in the National Registry of Vehicles managed by the DGT. Other reasons for seizure included a lack of mandatory civil liability insurance and various other infractions. Authorities also utilized a newly acquired certified speedometer to detect tampered scooters, noting instances where speeds exceeded 100 km/h.

In addition to vehicle seizures, police issued 325 citations for dangerous behavior, with the most frequent violation being riding without an approved helmet. The city has implemented an information campaign targeting schools and community associations to promote responsible use and awareness of the new registration and insurance requirements.
