Albacete to develop digital twin for predictive urban planning
The Albacete City Council is launching a digital transformation project titled ‘Albacete, ciudad analítica y predictiva’ (Albacete, analytical and predictive city). As part of the national Smart Cities and Territories program (RedCyTI), the municipality will receive nearly two million euros in funding to develop a digital twin of the city.
This digital twin will feature 3D mapping and a digital laboratory designed to integrate data from various municipal sectors, including mobility, environment, water cycles, economic activity, and electronic administration. By creating a virtual replica of the city, officials will be able to simulate different urban scenarios and test the potential impacts of strategic decisions before implementing them in the real world.
The initiative is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and co-financed by the European Union. It is being promoted by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service through the Red.es platform as part of the Smart Economy initiative to foster economic and productive development in intelligent territories.
