Albanese government faces scrutiny over community infrastructure grants

The Albanese government is facing criticism regarding the $560 million Major and Local Community Infrastructure program. Analysis suggests approximately three-quarters of the funding has been directed toward electorates held by the Labor Party ahead of the 2025 election, while 45 electorates received no funding.

Concerns over political favoritism have been heightened by a $6 million grant to the Marrickville Golf Club, located in Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s electorate. The club had previously granted the Prime Minister an honorary membership that was not declared. The Australian Greens are currently calling for a parliamentary inquiry to determine if the grants were allocated based on merit or for political advantage.

Separately, the government is addressing diplomatic relations regarding Palestine, with Foreign Minister Penny Wong indicating that targeted measures against illegal settlements and settler violence are under consideration.
