Albania and Argent LNG sign memorandum for regional gas terminal

The Albanian government and the American company Argent LNG have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to explore the development of a large-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on the Albanian coast, specifically in Vlora.

The proposed facility is designed to have a regasification capacity of approximately five million tons per year, along with significant storage capabilities. Rather than serving only domestic needs, the project is intended to function as a strategic regional energy hub to enhance supply security across the Western Balkans and Southeast Europe.

The terminal aims to provide a flexible, non-Russian source of natural gas. It is planned to integrate with existing and proposed infrastructure, including the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the Ionion-Adriatic Pipeline (IAP), and the Fier–Vlorë gas corridor. This development positions Albania as a key entry point for American LNG into the regional market, building upon previous agreements involving companies like Naftogaz Group and Transgaz.
