Albania and Germany sign €114 million energy cooperation package

Albania and Germany have signed three cooperation agreements in the energy and infrastructure sector valued at about €114 million, comprising €90 million in loans and €24 million in grants. The package aims to modernise Albania’s power system by digitalising electricity transmission, upgrading the Vau i Dejës hydroelectric plant and improving energy efficiency in the Student City university campus in Tirana. The agreements were signed in Tirana by Albanian Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enea Karakaçi and German Ambassador Karl Bergner, with backing from the German government and the development bank KfW.

The projects are intended to increase the reliability and efficiency of Albania’s electricity network, support renewable generation, and align the country’s energy market more closely with the European Union.
