Albania and Macedonia ministries order inspections after patient abuse

In Durrës, Albania, a 52‑year‑old patient was reportedly taken by ambulance, left on a road and later found alive, only to undergo a surgical procedure that resulted in the amputation of a leg. The Albanian Ministry of Health responded by ordering an administrative investigation two days after the incident, seeking to clarify the decision‑making chain and the role of social services.

In Strumica, North Macedonia, a 19‑year‑old woman who had just undergone a caesarean section was allegedly left immobile and without medical assistance. After the case was highlighted on social media by her husband, Velibor Stojanov, the Macedonian Ministry of Health issued an extraordinary inspection order for the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate and pledged professional supervision of the hospital’s treatment procedures and staff actions.
