Wildfires affect Albania and North Macedonia
Wildfires continue to affect Albania and North Macedonia. In Albania, the Ministry of Defense reported that as of 20:00 on September 1, 2026, 17 fire outbreaks had been recorded. Of these, 4 remain active in Dajti, Vajkal (Bulqizë), Lundre (Mat), and Therepel (Skrapar), while 11 have been fully extinguished and 2 are under monitoring. Emergency response efforts include 164 operational personnel and 13 fire vehicles, supported by 90 members of the Armed Forces and two helicopters. Authorities state there is currently no immediate risk to residential areas.
In North Macedonia, the Crisis Management Center reported 26 open-space fires recorded between August 31 and September 1, 2026. As of the morning of September 1, six fires remained active across various municipalities, including Saraj, Štip, and Strumica, while 30 fires had been successfully extinguished.
