Albania battles widespread wildfires across multiple regions

Albania is currently battling widespread wildfires, with 30 fires reported across the country. As of the latest reports, 7 fires remain active, 10 are under monitoring, and 13 have been fully extinguished. Emergency operations involve over 400 local and national forces, including the Armed Forces, utilizing helicopters, drones, and specialized firefighting vehicles.

Critical areas include the Dajti Mountain in Tirana, several locations in the Dibra district such as Klos and Mat, and parts of Shkodra and Fier. While authorities state that current active fires do not pose an immediate threat to inhabited areas, the scale of the seasonal fire crisis is significant.

Data from the State Agency for Geospacial Information (ASIG) indicates that thousands of hectares have been affected this summer. In the Shkodra region alone, over 2,400 hectares were recorded as burned, followed by Lezha and Dibra. Independent estimates suggest the total area affected may exceed 6,200 hectares. Experts have noted that the increasing frequency and severity of these fires highlight systemic vulnerabilities in prevention and institutional coordination amidst changing climate conditions.
