Albania: Calls for justice regarding political disappearances and civil stability

In Albania, calls for accountability and stability have intensified following decades of political unrest and unresolved human rights cases. A family member of Remzi Hoxha, who was abducted, tortured, and killed by the SHIK intelligence service in Tirana in 1995, is demanding that the government and judicial authorities locate his remains.

Despite court rulings confirming the state's involvement in the disappearance, the family asserts that both the current administration under Edi Rama and previous leadership under Sali Berisha have failed to provide closure. They are calling on the Prime Minister, the Prosecutor's Office, and SPAK to reopen archives from the former SHIK service to find the remains.

These demands come amid broader concerns regarding political violence and anarchy in the country. Observers note that Albania has a history of instability, ranging from the destruction of public property in the early 1990s to the widespread anarchy of 1997 and various instances of political violence during subsequent election cycles.
