Albania confronts multiple wildfires in Gramsh and Finiq regions

A forest fire erupted on 1 August 2026 on Malin e Vinës in the Gramsh municipality, forcing fire crews to approach on foot for two hours due to steep, road‑less terrain. Despite the difficult conditions, the combined effort of fire‑protection, rescue, mountain‑service and police units fully isolated the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby forest areas.

A separate fire broke out in the Matomara area of the Finiq municipality, advancing toward the Mesopotam region and the Delvinë district. Deputy Ina Zhupa of the Democratic Party called for an immediate, all‑capacity response from the central government, including additional firefighting units, civil‑emergency structures, armed forces, and, if necessary, international aerial assistance. The incident recalls a large fire in Delvinë the previous year that caused extensive environmental and economic damage.
