Albania corruption concerns highlighted by US State Dept report
Democratic Party Deputy Jorida Tabaku has stated that corruption in Albania imposes a direct economic burden on families, pensioners, and businesses. She cited a recent U.S. Department of State report to support claims regarding distorted competition, money laundering, procurement issues, and property insecurity.
Tabaku also highlighted data from the American Chamber of Commerce Business Index for 2025, which shows a decline to 34 points out of 100. Within this index, monopolies and unfair competition were rated at 26.11 points, while corruption received a score of 28.67 points. These figures reflect ongoing challenges for companies interacting with the administration, courts, and regulators.
Furthermore, Tabaku emphasized the need for high-quality foreign investment in technology and manufacturing sectors rather than just real estate, noting that serious capital requires functional courts and transparent, stable regulations.
