Albania emerges as a new hub for affordable dental tourism
Albania is emerging as a significant destination for dental tourism, with Tirana positioning itself as a competitive alternative to Turkey for European patients seeking affordable dental care. In the Tirana metropolitan area, nearly 400 dental clinics operate to serve a local population of approximately 600,000, with many focusing on international clients through English and Italian advertising.
Costs in Albania are notably lower than in Western Europe; for instance, a dental implant costs roughly 600 euros, which is approximately four times less than prices in countries like the United Kingdom, France, or Germany. The growth of the sector is supported by the expansion of low-cost airlines to Tirana.
However, the rapid expansion has raised concerns regarding service quality and the need for rigorous verification of medical qualifications. Industry representatives have warned that unregulated operators could damage the reputation of Albanian medical tourism. In response, the Albanian Association for Medical Tourism has been established to address these challenges.
