Albania justice reform faces scrutiny amid SPAK investigations

Discussions regarding Albania's justice reform and the Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Structure (SPAK) have intensified following criticisms of the current judicial process. Concerns have been raised regarding the conduct of special prosecutors and judges, with allegations that decisions affecting individual liberties and institutional authority are sometimes made without the presence of involved parties.

Journalist Artan Hoxha has commented on the investigations involving former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, suggesting that the focus of anti-corruption efforts should shift from mere arrests to the seizure of illicitly gained assets. Hoxha argued that without recovering stolen wealth, legal convictions offer little benefit to citizens. He further alleged that Prime Minister Edi Rama has provided protection to Balluku, noting her continued political influence.
