Albania: MP Jorida Tabaku warns of economic instability
Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku has raised concerns regarding the sustainability of Albania’s economic growth during discussions on the national budget and fiscal package. Tabaku argued that the economy is becoming overly dependent on the construction sector, while agriculture and manufacturing are losing their share of the Gross Domestic Product.
Tabaku highlighted several fiscal changes, including proposed modifications to Value Added Tax (VAT), a reduction in the threshold for small businesses, and an increase in the dividend tax from 8% to 15%. She also expressed concern over declining exports in the agricultural and manufacturing sectors.
Furthermore, the MP addressed risks associated with the informal economy and potential money laundering through the construction industry. She called for responses from the Bank of Albania to address concerns regarding how these sectors are financed and the potential for illicit funds to enter the economy.
