Albania political activists accused of targeting journalists and officials
Reports indicate a pattern of intimidation and violence in Albania, drawing comparisons to historical paramilitary groups. Activists, referred to as ‘flamingos,’ are accused of targeting individuals who do not support their movement.
The intimidation tactics reportedly began with the use of denigrating posters against artists and singers who did not align with the intellectual standards of Dea Misheli. This escalated to attacks on journalists, including the public display of their portraits during protests.
Furthermore, the movement has targeted the tourism sector through negative review campaigns, which critics claim harms the Albanian economy. The violence has reportedly progressed from public denunciations to physical assaults on deputies, journalists, and civil society figures in cafes, streets, and near the Parliament.
