Albania political crisis deepens amid calls for SPAK investigations

Political analysts suggest that Albania's political crisis is likely to persist, with the resolution depending heavily on the actions of the Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK) rather than the scale of public protests. Political scientist Afrim Krasniqi argues that the government has focused on managing immediate pressure instead of addressing the underlying causes of public dissatisfaction.

Former deputy Lefter Maliqi has criticized SPAK for its perceived inaction regarding allegations of violence against protesters, including students and journalists. Maliqi has questioned the institution's independence, calling for investigations into reports of police brutality and electoral crimes, and asking whether the agency is serving as a shield for the current administration.

While Prime Minister Edi Rama has ruled out resignation, critics suggest the government's strategy focuses on maintaining political control through harsh rhetoric and mobilization rather than addressing structural grievances.
