Albania postpones agricultural census due to budget constraints

The agricultural and livestock census in Albania has been postponed again due to a lack of budget. According to INSTAT, the law was approved in August, and the remaining procedural steps cannot be completed within the current year.

Funding and implementation for the census are now expected to be included in next year’s budget. The last agricultural census was conducted in 2012, and this new counting process has faced multiple delays since its original deadline in 2022.

Once implemented, the census aims to register planted agricultural land, farms, and livestock. The project involves 3,400 surveyors tasked with documenting land use, farm sizes, machinery, and sector employment. The estimated cost for the census is 1.1 billion lek, approximately 11.7 million euros.
