Albania postpones bridge for anti‑corruption office as it moves forward with new penal code

Prime Minister Edi Rama approved a delay to the construction permit for a bridge linking the Special Anti‑Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK) and the Special Court in Tirana. The project, funded with about 397 million lek, has seen part of the structure built but remains unfinished, prompting the government to extend the deadline for the building permit.

At the same time, Justice Minister Toni Gogu presented the final draft of a new Penal Code aimed at strengthening the fight against economic crime, money‑laundering, ensuring proportional penalties and protecting human rights. The draft will be consulted with international experts, followed by a parliamentary debate on an amnesty bill for thousands of inmates. The reforms are part of Albania’s broader effort to align its justice system with EU standards.
