Albanian Parliament appoints new Health Minister amid opposition boycott

The Albanian Parliament has commenced a new session marked by significant leadership changes and political tension. Klodiana Spahiu was appointed Minister of Health with 79 votes, following the departure of Evis Salës. Additionally, Evis Kushi was elected as the new Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, also receiving 79 votes. The opposition Democratic Party boycotted the session, with members leaving the hall in protest of the voting process.

Parliamentary Speaker Niko Peleshi outlined the session's primary objectives, emphasizing European Union integration, electoral and territorial reforms, and the strengthening of parliamentary diplomacy. The legislative agenda includes prioritizing laws aligned with EU standards and preparing for full membership.

Separately, Democratic Party deputy Xhaferri has submitted evidence to SPAK regarding an alleged 17 million euro abuse involving the European College project in Tirana. The complaint alleges that funds and state land originally intended for the University of Tirana's campus expansion were diverted to the College of Europe project, potentially impacting 22,000 students.
