Albania property disputes linked to 11,000 deaths over 35 years

Security expert Fajton Softa has reported that approximately 11,000 people have been killed in property disputes in Albania over the last 35 years, spanning the country's democratic period.

Softa highlighted a recent clash between businessmen in Radmi, near Vlorë, regarding land ownership, describing it as merely the “tip of the iceberg” regarding the nation's property issues. He noted that conflicts intensify when large areas of land with significant economic value are involved, often drawing in various competing interests.

According to Softa, these disputes have caused severe social consequences, including the breakdown of families and conflicts between relatives. He emphasized that property ownership issues remain widespread across the country and represent a significant challenge for national institutions and security.
