Albania protests reach 126 days as citizens demand Rama's resignation

Protests against the Albanian government and Prime Minister Edi Rama have entered their 126th day, with demonstrators demanding his resignation and the establishment of a 12-month transitional technical government. The unrest, which began in June, was initially triggered by a large-scale luxury resort project on the Adriatic coast linked to Jared Kushner’s investment firm, Affinity Partners.

Activists and citizens have expressed concerns regarding corruption, mismanagement of public funds, and environmental damage. During recent gatherings, protesters have called for the arrest of high-ranking officials and the repeal of laws they claim harm national interests.

The movement has also expanded internationally, with members of the Albanian diaspora organizing a protest in front of the European Commission in Brussels. These demonstrators are advocating for Albania’s accession to the European Union without the current administration, asserting that the country deserves EU membership but not the existing government.
