Albania public debt ratio falls to 58.8% of GDP in Q2 2026

The average yield on Albania's domestic public debt declined to 4.18% at the end of June, the lowest level since 2022, after a sharp fall in the first quarter. The average maturity of the debt portfolio rose to 1,179 days, up from 1,002 days at the end of 2025, reflecting a strategy to lower refinancing risk amid low interest rates.

Public debt at the end of the second quarter of 2026 reached 804 billion lek (about €10.7 billion), representing 58.8% of gross domestic product. This marks a 0.1 percentage‑point drop from the same period a year earlier and a 2.6‑point reduction compared with the end of 2024. Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska‑Koçoska said the debt situation is being managed successfully and highlighted recent eurobond repayments as part of disciplined borrowing.

The Ministry of Finance noted that the modest rise in debt volume (2.5% nominal) was offset by lower inflation expectations and a strengthening economy, keeping the debt‑to‑GDP ratio within the government's target range.
