Albania pursues EU membership with 2027 negotiation goal

Albania continues its long-term process of negotiating membership with the European Union, a journey that began following the country's transition from communist rule in the early 1990s. The integration process is governed by the principle of conditionality and the EU's enlargement policy toward the Western Balkans, which serves as a tool of soft power for the Union.

Both the Albanian government and the European Union have established strategic objectives to conclude membership negotiations by the end of 2027, with the goal of ratifying the Accession Treaty by the end of 2030.
