Albania records drop in total deaths in 2025 while heart disease stays top cause
Albania's official statistics show that total deaths fell to 21,394 in 2025, a 3.2% decrease from 2024 and lowering the crude death rate to 910.5 per 100,000 inhabitants. Despite the overall decline, cardiovascular diseases remained the dominant cause, accounting for 52.9% of all deaths.
Deaths from traumatic injuries and poisonings increased, rising by 46 cases (6.9%) to 711 in 2025. Other groups with notable increases included central nervous system and sensory organ diseases (+13.8%), endocrine and nutrition disorders (+15.3%), and certain infections (+29.4%). Infant mortality stayed steady with 106 deaths, unchanged in rate from the previous year. The data underline ongoing challenges in chronic non‑communicable diseases and a need for stronger prevention policies targeting accidents and road safety for younger age groups.
