Albania has successfully completed a voluntary repatriation operation, bringing five Albanian citizens home from Syria. The group consists of two women and three children, including a 79-year-old woman who had been residing in the Al-Hol camp for over a decade.

The operation was a coordinated effort involving various Albanian state institutions, diplomatic and consular representatives, and Syrian authorities. Prime Minister Edi Rama described the repatriation as both a human and state obligation, ensuring the returnees receive protection and a fresh start under the care of Albanian institutions.

Upon arrival at Rinas Airport, the repatriated citizens were met by high-ranking officials, including Minister of Interior Besfort Lamallari. The government has committed to providing necessary health and psychosocial assessments, as well as support for social reintegration. To date, 44 Albanian citizens have been repatriated from Syria through such processes, and the government maintains its intention to continue these efforts as safe conditions permit.
