Albania reports 28,000 more women than men in 2025 population data

Data released by INSTAT for the end of 2025 reveals that Albania has approximately 28,000 more women than men. Out of a total population of 2,335,930, women account for 50.6% and men for 49.4%. This demographic shift is primarily attributed to higher male emigration rates and greater female longevity, despite a birth ratio that favors males at 108 boys for every 100 girls.

Significant gender disparities persist in education, labor, and politics. While women represent 65.3% of higher education graduates for the 2024-2025 academic year, they face lower labor force participation (70.1% compared to 82.7% for men) and higher unemployment rates (10.6% versus 8.2%). Additionally, a gender pay gap of 4.6% was recorded in 2025. In the political sphere, women comprised 35% of the Parliament, holding 49 of the 140 seats.
