Albania reports narrow natural population growth in Q2 2026

Albania is experiencing a narrowing natural population increase, according to preliminary data from INSTAT for the second quarter of 2026. During this period, the country recorded 5,083 births and 4,865 deaths, resulting in a natural increase of only 218 people.

While the number of deaths decreased by 3.7% compared to the same period in 2025, the number of births fell by 3.0%. This simultaneous decline in both indicators highlights concerns regarding the country's demographic renewal.

The demographic balance varies significantly by region. Out of twelve counties, only five recorded a positive natural increase, while seven recorded more deaths than births. Tirana maintains the highest absolute number of births and the largest positive balance with 1,033 more births than deaths, despite suffering the sharpest percentage decline in births at 12.0%.

In contrast, Korça reported the most negative balance, with 265 more deaths than births. Gjirokastra recorded the lowest total number of births at 66, while Dibra saw the highest percentage increase in births at 14.6%.
