Albania Repurposes Confiscated Property for 'Thurja e Qilimave' Exhibition

An exhibition titled “Thurja e Qilimave” opened at Publik Galeri in Tirana, showcasing hand‑woven rugs, six‑handed textiles and other works created by women involved in the social enterprise “Tradita ime Artizanale”. The gallery occupies a confiscated property that is administered by the Agency for Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets (AAPSK). A second confiscated property in Elbasan functions as a production and employment centre for the same women artisans.

AAPSK head Risena Xhaja said, “Pasuritë e konfiskuara nuk duhet të mbeten asete të ngrira, por të rikthehen në funksion të komunitetit.” Saimir Bakalli, director of the Joscelyn Foundation, added, “Qëllimi ynë është që arti dhe tradita të kthehen në të ardhura të qëndrueshme për gratë artizane dhe familjet e tyre.” The exhibition will remain open to the public until 4 September 2026, Monday‑Friday, 09:00‑17:00.
