Albania sets 2027 target to close EU accession talks as Macedonia calls for reforms

Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha told the Dubrovnik Forum that Albania aims to finish all EU accession negotiation chapters by the end of 2027. He linked the enlargement process to deeper democratic reforms, regional cooperation, transatlantic security, and highlighted support for a stable, democratic Kosovo.

North Macedonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Timço Mucunski also addressed the forum, urging that any gradual integration model must serve as a bridge to full EU membership rather than a permanent “waiting room”. He warned against indefinite delays, called for clearer timelines, and stressed the need for constitutional amendments concerning minority rights and other reforms before negotiations can advance.

Both officials framed the push for EU accession as a strategic priority for the Western Balkans, emphasizing reforms, regional stability, and alignment with European standards.
