Albania shows strong EU support and rising female urban migration
The latest European Commission Eurobarometer survey finds that 80% of Albanian citizens trust the European Union, the highest level in the Western Balkans, and 84% view EU accession as a positive step. Kosovo follows with 75% trust and similar support for membership, while Serbia records only 36% trust.
Albania's internal migration patterns in 2024 reveal a pronounced gender shift: 16,289 women relocated within the country compared with 9,303 men. The majority of these moves involve women aged 20‑29, driven by university studies, employment opportunities, and better services in Tirana. Experts link the trend to urbanisation, delayed marriage and higher female participation in higher education, which is reshaping the demographic profile of rural and small‑town areas.
