Albania to construct first commercial wind farm in Spille

Albania is set to begin construction on its first commercial wind energy park in Spille, Rrogozhina. Following a final agreement with the Austrian company VERBUND, the project will have an installed capacity of 72.6 megawatts.

Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enea Karakaçi announced that the project has secured necessary permits and met all requirements to begin works. The wind farm is expected to start commercial operations in the first quarter of 2028. This initiative is the first of three selected projects in Albania’s inaugural wind energy tender.

The investment aims to diversify Albania’s electricity production and reduce the energy system’s dependence on hydroelectricity, which is currently subject to climate-driven fluctuations. The project is also expected to benefit the local economy in Rrogozhina through infrastructure development and the engagement of local subcontractors.
