Albania Rolls Out 5,000‑Lek Pension Bonus and Boosts Health Spending
The Albanian government announced a summer pension bonus of 5,000 lek for roughly 777,000 retirees, to begin distribution tomorrow. The measure, presented by Economy Minister Delina Ibrahimaj, is estimated to cost about 3.7 billion lek and is part of a broader budget increase of 20.1 billion lek for pensions, protection, wages and investment.
Prime Minister Edi Rama also disclosed a new allocation of €15 million for oncology medicines and additional funding to raise health‑care capacity. The health package includes extra resources for hospitals, staff wages and equipment, alongside increased support for disabled persons and other social services.
In a separate statement, Rama defended a planned luxury‑resort investment in the coastal area of Zvërnec, arguing that high‑end tourism projects act as “factories” that generate jobs and stimulate the domestic economy.
