Albania to Hold Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels, Opening Closing Phase of EU Membership Talks

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that on 26 May an Intergovernmental Conference between Albania and the European Union will be held in Brussels. The meeting is intended to formally close the opening phase of accession negotiations and to launch the final, closing phase of the EU membership process.

Rama framed the event as a “proud day” for Albania, praising the negotiating team, institutions and citizens supporting the accession effort. Albania has been an EU candidate since 2014, aims to finish negotiations by 2027 and hopes for full EU membership by 2030.

The Prime Minister also responded to opposition criticism, emphasizing the country's progress and commitment to the integration path.
