Edi Rama addresses SHISH scandal and Albania's EU path

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has addressed several key domestic and international issues following his visit to the United States. Regarding the investigation into former SHISH director Vlora Hyseni, Rama emphasized that the judicial process is an independent matter and stated that the protection of the national intelligence service from collateral damage is a state duty.

Addressing allegations of corruption, Rama declared that all gifts received during his official duties have been registered as state property and are kept in a museum. He reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Albania and achieving European Union integration.

On the topic of EU accession, Ambassador Sofia Moreira de Sousa noted that Albania has entered a significant new phase, having opened six negotiation chapters and temporarily closed three. Rama echoed this sentiment, noting that Albanians remain highly enthusiastic about EU membership.

Additionally, Rama discussed economic development, mentioning that the Zvërnec and Sazan projects could potentially bring 4 billion euros to the Albanian economy through tourism and investment. During his meetings in New York, he also reflected on the evolving relationship between the Albanian diaspora and the homeland, noting a shift from financial remittances to active investment and partnership.
