Albania travel remains affordable as eSIM data options expand
Albania is attracting an increasing number of tourists, offering cheaper vacations than many Western European destinations. Prices have risen in popular coastal resorts such as Ksamil and Saranda, but meals at local bars remain low (burek for a few zł, main dishes around 30‑50 zł) and seasonal market produce is inexpensive. Visitors are advised to bring euros, exchange to lek on arrival, book accommodation well in advance, avoid the July‑August peak, and purchase travel insurance because the public health system is under‑funded.
French travelers, whose carriers often exclude Albania from roaming agreements, are encouraged to install an eSIM before arrival. Providers such as Ubigi, Saily, GoMoWorld and Airalo offer data packs ranging from 1 GB for €4.5 over seven days to unlimited plans with throttling after 20‑30 GB. These eSIMs use the One Albania network and support 5G where available, providing flexible connectivity for short stays or longer trips.
Overall, Albania continues to present a budget‑friendly option for European tourists, with new mobile‑data solutions helping visitors stay connected while exploring the country’s beaches, mountains and UNESCO heritage sites.
