Kosovo officials call for expansion of Adriatic Charter to A6

During the 81st UN General Assembly High-Level Week in New York, officials from the Adriatic Charter (A5) member states met under the chairmanship of Croatia to discuss regional security and cooperation.

Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca called for the expansion of the charter from A5 to A6 to include Kosovo as a full member. Konjufca cited the need for regional resilience and accountability, referencing the terrorist attack in Banjska and the 2024 attack on the Ibër-Lepenc canal as evidence of the necessity to protect critical infrastructure against sabotage, cyber, and hybrid threats.

Albanian Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha also supported the strengthening of the Adriatic Charter, describing it as a vital pillar of regional security and Euro-Atlantic cooperation. Hoxha emphasized that Kosovo’s long-awaited membership would enhance regional cohesion and the collective ability to address modern challenges, including foreign information manipulation and energy security.
